Every-Face

Digital, Cover Design for Rerites of Passage

Long having considered myself an outsider, it came to my surprise many years ago that I was a couple turns of a knob away from the most average human in the world. A 28 year old han Chinese man who was right handed and spoke Mandarin. I returned to China and found myself the same height as everyone else, with the same eyes, hair colour, wide feet… I felt embarrassed. I learned later there is power in the many, copying was practice, duplication was commonality, mass was a body of work. Later when I saw my face emerge from an AI powered portrait generator, it was not an affront to my individuality but a mirror into the uncountable number people with whom I shared my face.

Every image represents a different interpretation of duplication, from data to people, to pop culture.
